What sellers report

Since mid-August 2026, Amazon sellers in the EU report receiving “Action Required” notices about environmental claims, with a spreadsheet of affected products (ASINs). According to Amazon-tools provider AMALYTIX, the flagged section can be removed after 15 days, and listings that still carry the claim can be deactivated from 27 September 2026.

The list is only the start. Sellers report that it covers listing text. Your images, infographics, A+ content and brand store are not on it, and each marketplace (DE, FR, IT, ES, NL, PL, SE, BE, IE) has its own listing to clean.

The law behind it is not in doubt: the EU directive on empowering consumers for the green transition (EmpCo) applies from 27 September 2026 to every commercial claim, in your own shop and on a marketplace alike.

What we check

Everything a shopper sees on your product page.

Listing text (paste)

  • Title
  • Bullet points
  • Product description
  • Search terms

Images (upload)

  • Main image and gallery
  • Infographics
  • A+ modules and brand store images

EU rules for every marketplace, plus national rules for Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland.

An example

A made-up listing, the way many look today.

Before

Bamboo toothbrush, pack of 4 – 100% eco-friendly and sustainable, biodegradable, climate-neutral shipping

Why it's a problem

  • “Eco-friendly” and “sustainable” are generic claims: banned unless the product has recognised excellent environmental performance, such as the EU Ecolabel.
  • “100%”: the bristles are nylon, so the claim covers more than is true.
  • “Biodegradable”: under which conditions, and how fast? Without that, it is vague.
  • “Climate-neutral shipping”: if it relies on offsetting, it is never allowed.

After

Bamboo toothbrush, pack of 4 – bamboo handle, nylon bristles, packed in cardboard

Specific, true and checkable. Add a certification only if you hold it for this product.

Two ways to comply

Remove the claim, or prove it. Some claims cannot be proved at all.

Never allowed

  • “Climate neutral” or “CO₂-neutral” based on offsetting
  • Your own sustainability badge, not from a certification scheme or a public authority
  • A claim about the whole product that is true for only part of it
  • A legal requirement presented as a special feature of your product

Allowed with proof

  • Generic words (“eco-friendly”, “green”) only with recognised excellent environmental performance: EU Ecolabel, Blue Angel, Nordic Swan
  • Specific claims (“handle made of bamboo”, “80% recycled cardboard”) with evidence you can show
  • Sustainability labels from an independent certification scheme

Questions sellers ask

Does fixing my listing on amazon.de also fix amazon.fr?+

No. Each marketplace has its own listing text, in its own language. Check and fix each one, and choose the marketplace above so the check uses that country's rules.

Are images checked?+

Yes. Upload your main image, infographics or A+ modules in the image check. We read the text in the image and look at badges, leaves and other green signals.

What proof does Amazon accept?+

Amazon hasn't published a full list for the EU. Under the law, a generic claim like “eco-friendly” needs recognised excellent environmental performance, such as the EU Ecolabel or an official ecolabel like Blue Angel or Nordic Swan. A specific claim needs evidence, such as test data, that backs exactly what you say.

Can EcoClaim read my Amazon page directly?+

Not on this page yet. Paste your text and upload your images now; checking your product links directly is coming.

My notice lists only a few ASINs. Are my other products safe?+

Not necessarily. Sellers report that the list covers listing text only. Images, A+ content, your brand store and your other marketplaces are not on it, and the law applies to all of them.

Is my listing text stored?+

Checks without an account are not saved. When you are signed in, the result is saved in your account so you can come back to it.

Is this legal advice?+

No. EcoClaim flags risky wording and suggests safer text, based on the EU directive and national rules. For a binding opinion on your products, ask a lawyer.
