Is “Carbon neutral” still allowed under EU law?

Not on its own. Under the EmpCo Directive this is a generic environmental claim, prohibited unless you can demonstrate recognised excellent environmental performance.

Why it is a problem

Explicitly banned under Article 1(4) of Directive 2024/825 when based on greenhouse gas emission offsets. Must reflect actual lifecycle impact.

What to write instead

Report verified emissions, e.g. "Our Scope 1 & 2 emissions are 1.2 tCO2e per unit. We have reduced absolute emissions by 35% since 2020 (SBTi validated)."
